Penelope Duchesne is French Canadian born and raised in Montreal. She grew up in a very urban way and graduated as a fashion designer. After looking for work, she realised that she needed to learn English and decided to move to a small town in Ontario to do so. Twenty-eight years later, the city girl has become a peaceful country girl living in an historical Victorian home where she gardens and paints large canvases of her cherished, beloved, and well-cared-for gardens.

Penelope’s passion to paint was developed by painting a series of large murals for a community projects both commercial and residential. After painting murals for 10 years she turned her interest of art to canvas. She now paints large florals and landscapes on canvas and her canvases have found homes in private collections across Canada and the United States.

Besides painting, Penelope is also an Artiste In Residence with Conseil Scolaire Catholique Providence in Windsor with whom she also works as a supply and educator. She also teaches art in her home studio to children and adults.  Penelope’s passion for flowers, architecture, and food reflects in her work. Her love of life, nature, and beauties come alive with each painting she creates. Her artwork is a careful testimony of the precious life cycle that evolves around her and its fragility.

Penelope works with Acrylic paint on large canvas. She is self taught and is constantly working to improve her techniques. She paints from the pictures she takes in her gardens and from her visual observations of her subjects from growing and taking care of them. In the future Penelope plans on painting more of the florals but also hopes to start offering limited print editions to broaden her audience.
