Andrea Kubis was born in Sarnia, Ontario but grew up living in many places in Canada and a couple of places in the Caribbean.  She now resides in Kingsville with her husband and son.  Andrea had absolutely no clue what she wanted to do when she grew up but the arts always played a prominent role in her life.  She performed in many church plays, community musicals, and school theatrical productions.  This lead her to an Honours Degree in Dramatic Arts from Queen’s University and her Bachelor of Education from University of Windsor.  She found her love of painting after she had requalified to become a special education teacher and was given the art class.  She started by following YouTube tutorials for her special education classes.  Then she realized she wanted more and started to study under local artist Sarah Trudell.  Again, she requalified and became a Visual Arts teacher for Leamington District Secondary School.

Andrea’s style of painting is still very much in its infancy as she continues to explore new techniques and methods.  She has learned that she loves to paint when she is outside as she finds nature an inspiring subject.  With her husband as a partner, they have created the YouTube channel “Paint Escape”.  They create videos about their camping experiences and Andrea’s painting adventures as they tour different campgrounds.

Andrea’s paintings are starting to find their way into many homes in the area and have even gone home with some of the sailors on the Tall Ship HMCS Oriole.  She has competed in some Plein Air competitions both locally and across the border.  Some of her paintings have helped to raise money for the First Baptist Church’s mission to Bolivia, Community Living, and the Joan Cotte Fund.  She continues to drive creativity through teaching and the promotion of the arts through her involvement in the Arts Society of Kingsville.
